“txt” is an interactive show by acclaimed conceptual artist Brian Feldman, where a mysterious character named txt recites absurdist dialogue written anonymously by the audience in attendance via Twitter.
Acclaimed conceptual artist Brian Feldman’s second commissioned project and probable second-to-last new project of the year finds him distributing copies of the Orlando Weekly Best of Orlando 2011 issue as only he can.
For 5.999 hours on Thursday, June 30th (12:00 PM - 5:59 PM), acclaimed conceptual artist Brian Feldman will present a new project called “The Most Expensive Gas in America,” alerting drivers of extremely high gas prices by holding up a sign with otherwise unlisted gas prices in front of Sun Gas Station (5600 Butler National Drive) in Orlando, Florida.
Sun Gas Station, the closest gas station to Orlando International Airport, is currently being fined $250 a day by the City of Orlando for not posting their gas prices. They have a court date set for June 30th to challenge the city ordinance, which requires the station to post their prices on signs visible from the roadway.
“Even though I’m not a car owner, I do occasionally drive and it’s plain to see that price gouging is in full effect here,” said Brian Feldman. “By holding up a sign with Sun Gas Station’s unadvertised prices which they refuse to advertise themselves I hope to get them to reconsider their misguided business practices. It’s certainly the least I can do for my fellow drivers, tourists and locals alike.”
Greg Fox of WESH 2 News reported on May 12, 2011 that 8 or 9 other gas stations in the City of Orlando, including Suncoast Energys located directly across the street from Sun Gas, were also not posting their prices. However, Sun Gas Station has been mentioned more than once as having the most expensive gas prices in the continental US. They also have a highly visible sign, with more than enough room to post their gas prices.
“The really funny-slash-infuriating thing is, Sun Gas actually did install a sign to comply with the city ordinance. However, they built it behind the station where almost no cars see it! And even if they did see it, it wouldn’t help anyone make an informed purchasing decision as the sign has been blank for weeks!”
Current prices (as of June 25, 2011)
Regular (87) $5.799/gal.
Plus (89) $5.899/gal.
Super Premium (93) $5.999/gal.
“Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing and post their prices. But if they don’t, I’ll do my best to make sure they get the attention they deserve,” said Brian Feldman.
This independent project is not sanctioned, endorsed or sponsored by Sun Gas Station, Southeast Fuel LLC or the City of Orlando.
“24 Hour Embrace (after Young Sun Han)” marks the first time that Young Sun Han has granted permission to re-perform this piece, as well as the first time that Brian Feldman has re-performed another artist’s work.
The first collaborative project to be realized as a result of “The Swan Boat Talks,” this interactive work involves trading the shirts or tops of 1st Thursdays patrons with a limited edition “Lousy T-Shirt” designed by artists Brian Feldman and Johannah O’Donnell.
The “Lousy T-Shirt” is not for sale and only obtainable by attending 1st Thursdays and actively participating in the trade, while supplies last. Early arrival suggested.
Presented as part of 1st Thursdays at Orlando Museum of Art, the theme for April 2011 is “Fashionista.” The art of fashion depicted on the canvas of an artist or the style of a designer. From the chic trendsetter to the unique original and creative design past, present or future. Artists express their sense of art and style.
Orlando’s Official 2011 International Pillow Fight Day Event, timed to coincide with hundreds of pillow fights in cities around the world. This is the event you’ve been waiting all year for.
All interested PILLOWLANDO MMXI participants should bring a pillow to the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Site at the corner of S. Orange Ave. and W. South St. on Saturday, April 2nd at 5:00 PM EDT and wait for the signal. “Pillow fight!” At that time, pillows will swing and whack as those assembled experience a massive urban pillow fight. It’s free and a ridiculous amount of fun.
Orlandoans who love free, fun, public events like pillow fights, creative interventions, games and interactive art installations are invited to show up and take part, as well as all curious tourists and other Central Floridians who find out about it as International Pillow Fight Day and PILLOWLANDO MMXI draws near.
Costumes and unique pillows are encouraged! It’s also highly recommend that you bring water, as this is a thirst-inducing event! Stay hydrated!
THE RULES
• Soft pillows only!
• Swing lightly, many people will be swinging at once.
• Do not swing at people without pillows or with cameras.
• Remove glasses beforehand!
• Wait until the signal to begin. (Don’t arrive more than a couple minutes early!)
• Please, please, please do not use feather pillows! (This is a feather-free fight.)
• If anyone has a hard pillow, you should return it to the shop, because it’s faulty.
What Does “Everything” Mean?
Buddha Dog, Hot Dog w/ 2 Toppings, Chips (Fritos & BBQ), Fruit Nectar, Root Beer, Water
Previous food-related Brian Feldman Projects include “3 Candy Bars” (May 2010), “Chips and Salsa” (May 2010), “Feldman’s Infamous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest” (2009) and “The Feldman Dynamic” (2003-2009).
United Arts of Central Florida presents Brian Feldman’s newest interactive installation as part of ArtsFest 2011 as he remains inside of a playable skill crane machine for 16 hours in a re-creation of an amusing moment from recent Sheboygan, Wisconsin history. In 2004, then 7-year-old Timmy Novotny walked away from his father while he was using a pay phone at a Piggly Wiggly supermarket and proceeded to climb inside of a skill crane machine through its prize slot because he “just, like, wanted to go in there.” Now - you can try to win Brian, or other great prizes.

As part of ArtsFest 2011 (http://ArtsFestFL.com) presented by United Arts of Central Florida, acclaimed artist Brian Feldman will become “txt” in the revival of a performance first staged at the Kerouac House in February 2009. During this one-of-a-kind interactive performance, an audience texts anonymous messages via Twitter to create the “txt” character’s monologue, which he recites without filter. Laughter joins with moments of raw human exposure through the safety lens the performance provides, amid the appropriate collection of telephone history in Central Florida.
Each audience member is required to bring a fully charged cellular phone.
Note: Due to potential content, there is an age restriction for attendees to be over the age of 17. Attendees are recommended to reserve tickets in advance as seating is limited.

Get psyched for the Central Florida premiere of Patrick Barlow’s Tony® Award-winning play The 39 Steps by participating in a game-changing theater tailgate, in the parking lot prior to the 2pm matinee performance at Orlando Shakespeare Theater.
Peformance artist Brian Feldman (who made his professional acting debut with Orlando Shakespeare Theater at age 10) is no stranger to the theater tailgate, having tailgated for many productions over the years - in theater lobbies, sidewalks and parking lots. However, this marks the very first time he’s invited the public to join in on the fun.
So set your alarm, make your way over to Orlando Loch Haven Park with some theater-loving friends bright and early Sunday... and get ready for some theater!
This independent project (inspired in part by Sincerely, John Head) is not sanctioned, endorsed or sponsored by Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Samuel French, Inc. or Hank Williams, Jr.

You’re gonna want a front row seat for this one.
The completed sketch will be featured on Thor’s acclaimed Analog Artist Digital World blog, as well as TheDailyCity.com and in a book to be published in 2011.
Run time: Two hours, with no intermission. Wine and Mountain Dew (Thor’s favorite) available.
In the summer of 2008, performance artist Brian Feldman approximated the experience of being a Red Chair for 110 hours over a 14 day time span, in a piece called I Am a Red Chair at IKEA Orlando.
Now - as part of the 6th Annual Red Chair Affair, the event to kick-off Central Florida’s arts and cultural season, Brian reprises this much enjoyed performance for two more hours.
You can see Brian as a Red Chair by purchasing a VIP Ticket for $225, as he will be backstage at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, sitting amongst the nearly 70 other Red Chairs up for Auction.
